West Vancouver Aquatic Centre
Housing a Glulam-framed curtain wall glazing system, this project won the ONCE Foundation Award for Accessibility in Architecture at the 2010 World Architecture Festival.
Curved Glulam beams and purlins were chosen to match the roof structure of the existing pool, which is supported by additional shaped Glulam columns. This project features a Glulam-framed curtain wall glazing system. The ability to have discrete connections hidden within the Glulam was very important, and created an appearance that is clean and streamlined, while maximizing the viewing of the materials used. The surface treatments of the Glulam members is also easily maintained, and is perfect for humid environments.
