Eastern Iowa Airport Terminal Design
The Eastern Iowa Airport terminal redesign creates a bright, passenger-focused space that reflects Iowa’s natural topography. With skylights, regional materials, and a 453-foot canopy, the phased renovation supports one million passengers and future expansion.
The Eastern Iowa Airport (CID) terminal renovation delivers a modern, passenger-focused experience while honoring the region’s landscape and local context. Replacing a dated facility, the design introduces open, light-filled spaces that feature regional building materials and elements. Skylights above the ticketing and baggage claim areas connect travelers to the sky and natural light, while a terrazzo floor incorporates an inset pattern of the Cedar River, reflecting Iowa’s topography.
A striking feature of the project is the 453-foot undulating canopy at the terminal’s front façade, designed to echo the rolling hills of eastern Iowa. The translucent glazing system and careful use of regional materials create a facility that feels both modern and locally rooted. Managed in multiple phases, the renovation now accommodates one million passengers annually and supports future expansion of pre-secure and TSA checkpoint areas, ensuring the airport is well-positioned for continued growth and change in the aviation industry.
