Elephant Crossing

Calgary, AB

Traditional building materials such as wood and Glulam were used in the construction of this South East Asian-influenced building. Keeping a portion of the original facility intact, this renovation created a space that was over two-thirds larger for the animals.

The project was heavily influenced by South East Asian themes, and used traditional forms and building materials like wooden structural elements and screens. The ceiling was vaulted through the use of Glulam to allow more natural light and greater ventilation. This project kept a portion of the original facility intact, while creating a space that provides over two-thirds more spaces for the animals and visitors.
