ELEPHANT CROSSING

Calgary, Alberta

Elephant Crossing was constructed to expand the living area for the Calgary Zoo's Elephant herd. Its natural light and two new amphitheatres offer a greater view along with a more personal experience for visitors and the elephants. The architecture is based on a South East Asian influence using traditional forms and building materials such as wood structural elements and screens.

  • Glulam beams were used to vault the ceilings offering greater ventilation and natural light.
